Welfare group launches award for good horsemanship

The Welfare Stewarding Group has introduced a new award to recognize exhibitors who prioritize horse welfare at shows.

The Animalweb Good Horsemanship Award will highlight individuals demonstrating exceptional handling, empathy and a commitment to putting horses first. Rosettes and £10 feed vouchers sponsored by Dengie will be presented to selected winners at events. The first awards were scheduled for the Royal Cornwall Show held June 4-6. Founder Amanda Stoddart-West said the initiative focuses on the relationship between horse and rider rather than results. President David Marlin noted the awards aim to inspire positive practices across the industry. The group has been invited to 15 shows this year.
