Xbox Series X/S update adds option to disable Quick Resume for specific games

Microsoft has released an update for Xbox Series X/S consoles that lets users disable Quick Resume on a per-game basis. The feature responds to requests dating back to 2020 for better control over the suspension system. It rolled out to all users after testing in the Xbox Insider beta program.

Quick Resume enables Xbox Series X/S users to resume most games quickly after turning off the console. However, it has caused problems for online-focused titles, such as difficulties rejoining lobbies or inflated playtime counters from suspended sessions. Microsoft addressed these issues with the April update, now available to everyone. The toggle ensures affected games fully close when leaving them or suspending the console, allowing fresh starts from the menu upon return. Users access it via the More Options menu on a game tile, then Manage Quick Resume, and select Disable Quick Resume. The option first appeared last week for Xbox Insider beta participants. Testing confirmed it works with games like Battlefield 6, Arc Raiders, and Call of Duty. Quick Resume remains useful for offline and single-player experiences, such as Vampire Crawlers, The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077, where seamless swapping enhances play sessions.
