Zayn Malik announces fifth studio album 'Konnakol'

Zayn Malik has revealed details of his upcoming fifth studio album, titled 'Konnakol', set for release on April 17. The project draws deeply from his heritage and features the lead single 'Die For Me', arriving February 6. Malik debuted several tracks during his recent Las Vegas residency.

Zayn Malik unveiled his fifth studio album, 'Konnakol', on February 4, marking a significant evolution in his solo career following 'Room Under The Stairs' in 2024. The album, released via Mercury Records and Island Records UK, is described as pop-forward and Malik's most culturally inspired work to date. It explores themes rooted in his heritage, with the title referring to the South Asian vocal percussion technique of creating sounds with the voice.

In a statement, Malik explained: “It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album…‘Konnakol’ in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music – this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”

The album artwork features a snow leopard, a profound symbol in South Asia, which first appeared as an Easter egg during Malik's Las Vegas residency. Fans experienced previews through a 'Z5' listening booth at the shows, and Malik debuted unreleased tracks including 'Die For Me', 'Nusrat', 'Used To The Blues', 'Fatal', and 'Take Turns'. The lead single 'Die For Me' drops on February 6, with pre-orders available now.

This announcement follows a press release promising a massive year for Malik in 2026, building on his Vegas performances where he engaged audiences with new material. The project highlights his growing connection to cultural roots, positioning 'Konnakol' as a personal milestone.
