1655 Ethiopians granted pardon after Saudi detention

Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry announced that 1655 citizens detained in Saudi Arabia had their trials halted and received pardons. The outcome resulted from diplomatic efforts coordinated by the embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah.

Addis Ababa, June 4, 2018 (FMC). The Foreign Ministry stated that the result came from the government's focus on citizen-centered diplomacy.

Diplomatic efforts continue to address remaining cases in Saudi Arabia. The ministry warned the public to guard against false information spread by illegal human traffickers on social media.

Efforts to hold such traffickers legally accountable will continue, according to the ministry.
