75-year-old widow charged with fraud over Sh200 million land plot

A 75-year-old widow, Ruth Wambui Kimani, was charged on November 10, 2025, with conspiring to defraud Nairobi politician Agnes Kagure Kariuki of a Sh200 million land plot. The elderly woman denied the charges, stating the plot belongs to her late husband. Milimani Court released her on a Sh100,000 bail.

Ruth Wambui Kimani, aged 75, was charged on November 10, 2025, at Milimani Court with conspiring to defraud Agnes Kagure Kariuki of a Sh200 million land plot. The plot bears number LR.No.209/4843/10 (IR No15372) and measures 0.3252 hectares.

With the aid of a walking stick, Ms. Kimani told Magistrate Rose Ndombi, “I have been charged falsely. The plot I am accused of defrauding is the property of my late husband Francis Kimani Mungai, also known as Kimani Mungai. I am the administrator and controller of his estate.” Her lawyer, Peter Mirie, argued there is an ongoing 2018 case unheard by the High Court, where Ms. Kimani and Joseph Mwangi Njeri sued Agnes Kagure Kariuki, Francis Kimani Mungai, and Kimemia Enterprises Company Limited.

Mr. Mirie stated Ms. Kimani seeks the High Court to cancel the title deed issued to Agnes Kagure by the Lands Ministry. In that High Court case, Judge Charles Mbogo was informed by Agnes Kagure that she bought the plot for Sh10 million. The hearing is set for November 19 and 20, 2025.

Ms. Kimani was arrested on Friday and detained at a police station but released on Sh100,000 bail to appear in court on November 10. Magistrate Ndombi granted her Sh100,000 cash bail, considering her age and health, with the case mentioned on December 8, 2025. The prosecution was ordered to provide witness statements.
