ABC unveils trailer for RJ Decker drama series

ABC has released the first trailer for its upcoming drama series RJ Decker, starring Scott Speedman and Jaina Lee Ortiz. The show, an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen's novel Double Whammy, premieres in March and follows a disgraced photographer turned private investigator in South Florida. The trailer highlights a steamy reunion between the leads and debuted during recent episodes of other network shows.

The trailer for RJ Decker premiered on January 6, airing alongside the returns of Will Trent, High Potential, and The Rookie. Scott Speedman, known from Grey's Anatomy, plays the titular RJ Decker, described as a "private eye and a public mess." The series centers on Decker, a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-convict, who rebuilds his life as a private investigator amid South Florida's quirky and crime-ridden landscape. According to the official logline, he handles cases "that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre," aided by his journalist ex-wife, her police detective spouse, and a mysterious benefactor from his past who might either support him or lead him back to prison.

Jaina Lee Ortiz, recently of Station 19, portrays Emi Ochoa, the "shrewd-if-unpredictable" daughter of a powerful and corrupt senator with a tangled history alongside Decker. The preview quickly escalates into a steamy encounter between the two characters, setting a tone of intrigue and tension.

The cast includes Adelaide Clemens as Catherine Delacroix, Decker's ex; Kevin Rankin as Aloysius, his former cellmate; and Bevin Bru as Melody Romero, a Fort Lauderdale Police Department detective married to Catherine. Created by Rob Doherty of Elementary fame, the pilot was directed by Paul McGuigan, who also helmed early episodes of Scandal and Will Trent. Executive producers are McGuigan, Doherty, Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, and author Carl Hiaasen.

An exact premiere date within March remains forthcoming, but the series promises a blend of mystery and personal drama in its Florida backdrop.
