Japan's Ai Ogura claimed his first MotoGP victory in the Netherlands on Sunday after championship leader Marco Bezzecchi crashed heavily and was taken to hospital.
Ogura finished more than two seconds ahead of his Aprilia teammate Raul Fernandez, with Jorge Martin in third place. The 25-year-old, in his debut MotoGP season with Trackhouse, took the win on a winding track after starting from a strong position.
Bezzecchi crashed on lap three at over 200 kilometres per hour. The Italian rider was conscious but in intense pain after the incident and was transferred to hospital.
Ogura described the result as fantastic and thanked his team. The victory marked the first for a Japanese rider in MotoGP since Makoto Tamada in 2004. In the championship standings, Martin now leads Bezzecchi by seven points.
