ANH celebrates offshore gas discovery by Ecopetrol and Petrobras

The Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) celebrated the offshore natural gas discovery in the Copoazú-1 well, reported by Ecopetrol and Petrobras. The well is located 36 km from the coast at a water depth of 964 meters, with drilling starting on November 11, 2025.

The Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) welcomed the announcement from Ecopetrol and Petrobras about the exploratory success in the Copoazú-1 well. This project operates under the GUAOFF-0 contract signed with the ANH, led by Petrobras with a 44.44% stake and Ecopetrol holding the remaining 55.56%. Preliminary reports confirm gas presence through electrical profiles and fluid sampling, exceeding the well's primary target. Drilling began on November 11, 2025, at a site 36 km offshore in 964 meters of water depth. Pablo Fajardo, ANH president, stated: “We received with great technical expectation the announcement from the operating companies about the exploratory success in the Copoazú 1 well. From the ANH, we share this important milestone with all Colombians, a direct result of the work under the contracts we already had signed and which we are now managing with total efficiency.” The agency noted that the discovery validates the effectiveness of public policy in the energy sector and solidifies the region's gas potential, showing the benefits of rigorous contract oversight. The National Government highlighted that this deepwater find reinforces policy execution. The ANH pledged to ensure offshore activities respect the territories and communities of La Guajira and Magdalena.
