Apple tests red color for upcoming iPhone 18 Pro

Tech insider Mark Gurman reports that Apple is testing a deep red color as the flagship shade for the iPhone 18 Pro. This comes amid rumors of new color options, including possible variants in purple and brown. The iPhone 18 lineup is expected to launch in the fall.

Reports indicate that Apple is exploring a deep red hue for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, described as reminiscent of OPI's Big Apple Red. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared that this color is currently in testing as the new flagship option for the next iPhone Pros.

Gurman noted the success of the orange shade from the previous model, stating, "Given the success of orange, I wouldn't be surprised if the company keeps that option around and just adds the red as an additional choice. But red and orange might be a little too close on the color wheel to have both."

CNET's Patrick Holland expressed enthusiasm for the potential change, saying, "I would be thrilled for a deep red iPhone 18 Pro. I imagine strong Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West vibes, which would not only add color to the iPhone but also give it an earthy feel. And that's the opposite vibe that I get from the bold, in-your-face Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro, which looks like the color of Sunkist soda."

Additional rumors suggest Apple may consider purple and brown shades, potentially as variants of the red. For its anticipated foldable phone, Gurman expects more subdued options like dark gray, black, white, or light silver.

Apple has offered red before, such as the Product Red edition for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus in 2022. The iPhone 17 series included colors like lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black for the standard models, while the Pro versions featured cosmic orange, deep blue, and silver. No official confirmation exists for the iPhone 18, but a September announcement and fall release are anticipated. Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
