Athletics assess Mason Miller trade after Padres series

The Athletics reflected on their July 2025 trade of closer Mason Miller during a weekend series against the Padres at Petco Park. Miller, now with San Diego, closed out a 2-0 win on Saturday with a perfect ninth inning. Manager Mark Kotsay emphasized the long-term value of the return package.

The trade sent Miller and JP Sears to the Padres for infielder Leo De Vries and pitchers Braden Nett, Henry Baez and Eduarniel Núñez. De Vries, ranked as the second-best prospect in baseball, is batting .281 with five home runs and 16 stolen bases in 43 games at Double-A Midland this season. He has also played some third base to add versatility.
