Avatar: Fire and Ash box office: Dominates South Korean chart with $10.2M opening weekend

Following its $345 million global debut, James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash topped the South Korean box office with $10.2 million over the December 19-21 weekend from 1.3 million admissions, claiming nearly two-thirds of the market and lifting its five-day total to $13.6 million. Zootopia 2 held second amid the competition.

James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash, fresh off a $345 million worldwide opening, made a strong debut in South Korea, grossing $10.2 million from 1.3 million admissions during the December 19-21 weekend. According to KOBIS data from the Korean Film Council, it played in 2,514 theaters and captured almost two-thirds of the weekend's revenue, reaching $13.6 million over five days.

Disney's Zootopia 2 placed second, adding $4 million for a four-week total of $41.2 million from over 620,000 viewers, retaining family appeal.

Local animated film Pororo the Movie: Sweet Castle Adventure took third with $250,668, accumulating $805,395. South Korean comedy-drama The People Upstairs, starring Ha Jung-woo, Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Dong-wook, and Lee Ha-nee—about a downstairs couple confronting noisy upstairs neighbors—earned $262,926 in fourth, totaling $3.2 million.

Japanese anime Jujutsu Kaisen: Shibuya Incident / Culling Game – The Movie, directed by Shōta Goshozono and adapting Yuji Itadori's battles in the Shibuya Incident arc, added $129,992 for $2.3 million overall in fifth.

Universal's Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 grossed $126,015 in sixth ($1.4 million total). Previews for Crayon Shinchan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers debuted seventh at $75,097 ahead of December 24. Wicked: For Good fell to eighth with $49,252 ($6.5 million cumulative).

Miyake Sho's Locarno-winning Two Seasons, Two Strangers, starring Shim Eun-kyung and based on Tsuge Yoshiharu's stories, earned $45,916 ($238,103 total). Japanese period drama Kokuho rounded out the top ten with $31,713 ($1.1 million).

The top ten generated $15.2 million, up from $9.5 million the prior weekend.
