AY Comedian questions church role after programme removal

Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY, has explained why he stepped away from church. He said he was removed from a programme due to concerns about public perception. The comedian reaffirmed his Christian faith in the video shared on Instagram.

Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, posted a video on his Instagram page on July 26. He described being invited to participate in a church programme, only for the invitation to be withdrawn after internal discussions. The decision was based on concerns about public perception surrounding him.

Makun said he respected the decision but questioned its basis. “When did public opinion become stronger than one’s relationship with the altar and faith?” he asked. He added that the church should represent grace, truth and restoration, regardless of allegations against individuals.

The comedian emphasised that his faith in God remains intact. He referenced Jesus’ invitation to those who are weary and noted that the Bible states all have sinned. Makun concluded by asking his followers, “Who is the church really for?”
