The Ball State women's golf team concluded the Rio Verde Classic on February 22, 2026, tying for fifth place among the competitors in this spring season opener. Sophomore Sophie Korthuijs anchored the performance with a strong final round of 71, finishing one under par and providing key leadership for the squad.
Head coach Camron Andry reflected on the tournament, noting areas of encouragement amid challenges. "There was a lot to be encouraged about this week," Andry said. "We weren't very sharp on or around the greens so we let some good scoring opportunities slip away, but the ball striking was pretty solid most of the week and we really competed hard. I think there's a lot we can build off of as we head to Puerto Rico in a few days."
The event marked the Cardinals' return to competition, showcasing resilience in ball striking despite inconsistencies around the greens. As they prepare for their next outing in Puerto Rico, the team aims to refine their short game based on lessons from this tournament. Ball State University Athletics reported the results, emphasizing the competitive effort throughout the three days of play.
