Barranquilla has been selected to host the single final of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana, becoming the first Colombian city to do so since 2019. Mayor Alejandro Char celebrated the decision and thanked Conmebol and Colombian Football Federation leaders. The choice was confirmed after a meeting in Lima.
Barranquilla was officially chosen as the venue for the 2026 Copa Sudamericana final, a milestone for Colombian football. This will be the first time a Colombian city hosts this match since Conmebol adopted the single final format in 2019.
The announcement was made by Mayor Alejandro Char, who shared his joy on social media. Char expressed thanks to Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez and Colombian Football Federation president Ramón Jesurún for their support. "The choice represents recognition of the city's work and its capacity to host high-impact sporting events," Char stated.
The decision was made unanimously by the Conmebol Council following a presentation by Char on behalf of Barranquilla. Domínguez said: "We just deliberated in the Council after the presentation made by you on behalf of the city of Barranquilla, and unanimously we have decided to give the vote of confidence so that the city of Barranquilla is the host of the single final of the Conmebol Sudamericana in 2026. We know that from now on we move to Barranquilla and that, in fact, it will be a success under your leadership".
The confirmation took place during a meeting in Lima, the current host of the 2025 Copa Libertadores final, where official documents were processed. With this designation, the Estadio Metropolitano prepares to welcome thousands of fans and star in one of the most important continental football events in 2026.
