The Russian publishing house Bombora has secured the rights to reissue the memoirs of game designer Sid Meier, creator of Civilization and other classics. This follows an earlier Russian edition by MIF, aiming to give the story a fresh presentation. The book delves into Meier's career and the development of influential games.
Sid Meier, a pivotal figure in video game history, has inspired a new edition of his personal account through Bombora's initiative. Over his four-decade career, Meier developed landmark titles that shaped the industry, including the 1991 turn-based strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization, which has sold more than 51 million copies and accumulated over a billion hours of playtime worldwide.
The memoirs, titled «Sid Meier's Memoir! A Life in Computer Games» in the original, were previously published in Russian by MIF as «Sid Meier: Life in the World of Computer Games». Bombora seeks to revitalize this narrative, offering readers an immersive look at the behind-the-scenes creation of hits like Civilization. Meier recounts his journey from an enthusiastic young computer hobbyist to a key player in launching a multi-billion-dollar sector.
In the book, Meier provides insights into the evolution of the gaming industry, the mindset of players, and his principles for effective game design. It also covers the founding of MicroProse in 1982 and the development of early successes such as Pirates! and Railroad Tycoon. This republication highlights Meier's enduring impact, allowing a new generation to explore the creative processes behind these enduring franchises.
