For the first time, Bontang in East Kalimantan hosted the Sirnas C Pupuk Kaltim Open 2025 badminton tournament, drawing 793 athletes from 75 clubs across Indonesia. Supported by Pupuk Kaltim, the event employed the PBSI ranking points system to impact athletes' national standings.
The Sirnas C Pupuk Kaltim Open 2025 badminton circuit took place from December 8 to 13, 2025, at GOR Pupuk Kaltim in Bontang. This marked the first time Bontang hosted a national badminton championship, a historic milestone for Pupuk Kaltim in its 48th year.
Organizing committee chair Azwar Janur noted high participant enthusiasm. "Total participation reached 793 athletes from 75 clubs across Indonesia," he said. Competitors spanned age groups from youth to adults, in both prestasi and non-prestasi categories, providing tiered competition opportunities for regional athletes.
Pupuk Kaltim CEO Gusrizal highlighted the company's social contribution commitment. "This is a proud historical milestone for Pupuk Kaltim, as it's the first time the PBSI Sirnas C is held in Bontang," he stated. Competition facilities, including venue, accommodation, and security, met PBSI standards to support athlete performance.
Gusrizal viewed sports as key to shaping youth character. The event is expected to nurture new talents from Bontang for national and international achievements. PBSI tournament division head Herman Subarja described it as the closing series of this year's national championships, signaling a strong future for badminton development with private sector support.
Bontang Deputy Mayor Agus Haris praised the organization and hopes it becomes a routine event, strengthening Bontang's position as an Indonesian sports hub.
