Starting January 5, 2026, Cali begins a new pico y placa rotation to enhance mobility and cut vehicle congestion through the first semester. The restriction runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning with a pedagogical phase without penalties.
Cali will adjust its vehicle restriction scheme with the new pico y placa rotation taking effect on Monday, January 5, 2026, lasting until June 30. The measure aims to streamline traffic flow, ease peak-hour congestion, and support environmental improvements by lowering emissions.
The schedule stays the same: Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., sparing weekends and holidays. The rotation starts with plates ending in 1 and 2 on Mondays, then 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays, and 9 and 0 on Fridays.
In the first week, from January 5 to 9, a pedagogical phase will see agents guiding drivers without issuing fines. Penalties will start on January 13 for violations.
Several vehicles are exempt, such as emergency services like ambulances and firefighters, official and diplomatic vehicles, those for people with disabilities, hybrids and electrics, cargo trucks of five tons or more, and motorcycles. Vehicles paying the congestion fee are also spared.
Gustavo Orozco, District Mobility Secretary, stated: “This update aims to improve mobility, reduce peak-hour vehicle congestion, and contribute to Cali's environmental decontamination. We invite all caleños to plan their trips, use public transport, and respect the new rotation for more efficient and sustainable mobility”.
Officials recommend checking official channels to verify plate-based restrictions and encourage options like the MIO system, taxis, or bicycles.
