Team Canada secured top spot in Group A at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a 5-1 victory over Switzerland on February 13 in Milan. Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid each tallied three points in the win, while Macklin Celebrini added a goal and assist. The result earns Canada a bye to the quarterfinals.

At Santagiulia Arena in Milan, Canada jumped to an early lead in the first period. Connor McDavid scored at 5:45 on a power play, assisted by Nathan MacKinnon, making it 1-0. Five minutes later, at 10:54, McDavid assisted Thomas Harley for a 2-0 advantage after a pass from Tom Wilson.

Switzerland responded at 12:42 when Pius Suter converted a power-play rebound past Logan Thompson, narrowing the gap to 2-1. This marked Canada's first goal conceded in an Olympics with NHL players since 2014.

In the second period, Macklin Celebrini restored the two-goal lead at 4:14, one-timing a no-look backhand pass from MacKinnon. Sidney Crosby added to the score in the third period at 7:28, redirecting a pass from Mitch Marner to make it 4-1. MacKinnon sealed the 5-1 final at 13:03, combining with McDavid and Celebrini on the play.

Logan Thompson made 24 saves in his Olympic debut for Canada, while Akira Schmid stopped 34 shots for Switzerland. Cale Makar contributed two assists. With the win, Canada (2-0-0-0) clinched Group A and a quarterfinal bye. Switzerland (1-0-1-0) next faces Czechia.

Late in the game, Switzerland's Kevin Fiala was stretchered off after tangling with Wilson along the boards. McDavid's six points over two games make him the first player with five or more in his initial two Olympic appearances with NHLers. "We're a deep team no matter how they do the lines," McDavid said.
