Charli XCX's latest single, 'Wall of Sound', arrived on January 17, 2026, as the newest preview from her soundtrack album for the film adaptation of Emily Brontë's 'Wuthering Heights', directed by Emerald Fennell. The track opens with horror-esque orchestral strings and the singer's raw vocals, building to a spooky chorus of violins. In the lyrics, she sings, “Unbelievable tension/ Wall of sound/ No real reason and I can’t escape it.”
This release follows 'House', which featured a collaboration with John Cale of The Velvet Underground to create an eerie atmosphere, and the gothic 'Chains of Love'. The full album, described by Charli as an exploration of identity and excess—'raw, wild, sexual, gothic, British, tortured'—will launch on February 13, alongside the film starring Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.
The project marks a shift for Charli after her 2024 breakthrough album 'Brat', which left her feeling 'stuck, empty and barren'. She recently shared, “[By the end of ‘Brat’] I sort of felt like I was squeezing blood from a stone, trying to get every last drop of liquid life out of an idea I had already been sat with for years prior.” Now inspired more by film than music, she is exploring strings in her work. Her producers, including husband George Daniel, have hinted at an 'anti-Brat' direction for her next non-soundtrack album.
