Netflix has ordered a new romantic drama series titled Lovesick, starring Claire Danes as a breast cancer surgeon facing her own diagnosis. The Emmy-winning actress will also executive produce alongside writer Sarah Treem. The series delves into themes of love, illness, and the meaning of life.

Netflix announced a straight-to-series order for Lovesick, with Claire Danes starring as Annika, a renowned breast cancer surgeon whose life changes after receiving her own cancer diagnosis. The drama follows Annika and her politician patient Nate, exploring love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life, according to the official synopsis. Danes will executive produce with Sarah Treem, known for The Affair, who will also write the series. Danes rose to fame as Angela Chase in the 1990s teen drama My So-Called Life. She won two Emmys for her role as CIA officer Carrie Mathison in Showtime's Homeland and recently appeared opposite Matthew Rhys in Netflix's The Beast in Me. In related casting news, The Morning Show has added Sydney Park, known from Will Trent, as Leah, the new assistant to Billy Crudup's Cory Ellison, in its fifth season. Jeff Wilbusch will recur as Roman, head of protective services for the UBN News Division.
