Rapper Danger Dan reached the top ten of the German single charts with his controversial song 'Keine Angst', which had earlier drawn attention after ZDF canceled his planned performance on 'Die Anstalt'.
The song entered at number seven, GfK Entertainment reported. It criticizes the rise of the AfD and right-wing positions and references imprisoned left-wing extremists.
Danger Dan and pianist Igor Levit had planned to present the song on the ZDF cabaret show 'Die Anstalt', but the broadcaster canceled the appearance shortly before recording, citing concerns that the lyrics could be understood as a call to violence. Danger Dan called the decision censorship, telling Spiegel that 'the ZDF director is starting to censor antifascist songs'—a move the show's makers also criticized.
This follows the 'Anstalt' team's public discussion of the cancellation during their recent 100th episode, where they condemned violence but stressed the need for open debate amid rising right-wing incidents.
