DCI arrests man over KSh 8.6 million fake government jobs scam

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arrested a suspect accused of defrauding dozens of job seekers out of more than KSh 8.6 million by promising government positions in the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service and Public Service Commission.

The arrest follows complaints lodged at Baragoi Police Station in Samburu. Detectives from Samburu North tracked the suspect to a hideout in Nairobi after he had evaded summons for months.

Officers recovered two vehicles believed to have been bought with the proceeds of the alleged scam. The vehicles were impounded as exhibits.

The suspect appeared at Maralal Law Courts on 3 July. The court granted investigators 10 days to complete their inquiries, with the next hearing scheduled for 13 July.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations stated that the suspect received KSh 8,621,141 after convincing victims he could secure employment in the specified agencies.
