Desiree Ellis names Banyana Banyana squad for 2026 WAFCON

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has announced the final 26-player squad for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team features a mix of youth and experience and will depart for the tournament on Saturday.

Ellis selected the squad to help the team reach the semi-finals at the event, which runs from 25 July to 16 August. She said the group combines youth and experience and will respect all opponents while focusing on its strengths.

Goalkeepers are Kaylin Swart, Andile Dlamini and Kebotseng Moletsane. Defenders include Lebohang Ramelepe and Bambani Mbane, both from Mamelodi Sundowns, which supplies six players overall. Midfielders and forwards feature Refiloe Jane, Linda Motlhalo, Thembi Kgatlana, Hilda Magaia, Amogelang Motau, Bongeka Gamede, Noxolo Cesane, Gabriella Moodaly Salgado and Nthabiseng Majiya.

Banyana Banyana are drawn in Group B with Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Burkina Faso. Their first match is against Tanzania on 27 July. The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semi-finalists advancing.
