A radio fault in the digital train radio GSM-R halted all train services across Germany late Tuesday evening. The issue was resolved overnight, but delays persist.
Train services were halted around 22:30 on June 23 due to a fault in the digital train radio GSM-R. Deutsche Bahn trains, several S-Bahn networks and private operators such as Metronom came to a standstill.
A Deutsche Bahn spokesperson said the cause had been identified and the fault fixed. The first trains began moving again shortly after midnight in cities including Berlin, Cologne and Hanover.
DB Regio Mitte warned that high follow-on delays and short-notice cancellations must be expected until at least 6 a.m. on June 24. Stranded passengers received taxi and hotel vouchers as well as stationary trains.
