The Election Commission has extended the deadline for house-to-house verification in Delhi’s special intensive revision of electoral rolls to August 8, with the final roll now scheduled for October 19.
The Election Commission of India announced the revised schedule on Wednesday after two weeks of the special intensive revision exercise. The door-to-door visits, which started on June 30 and were originally set to end on July 29, will now run until August 8. Officials cited slow digitisation of forms as the reason for the extension.
Nearly 99% of enumeration forms have been distributed to Delhi’s 1.45 crore electors, but only around 14.35% to 14.99% have been digitised so far. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17 instead of August 5. Claims and objections can be filed until September 16 and will be disposed of by October 15.
Delhi election officials said the extra time will allow Booth Level Officers to complete collection and verification without overburdening staff. Every elector must return their filled form for inclusion in the draft roll. In case of discrepancies, Election Registration Officers will issue notices during the claims period.
