Eff calls for forensic investigation into Xolile George salary

The Economic Freedom Fighters has requested a forensic probe into the salary of Parliament's secretary, Xolile George. The party wrote to Speaker Thoko Didiza after concerns arose in a parliamentary committee.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has written to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza requesting a forensic investigation into the salary package of Secretary to Parliament Xolile George. The matter was discussed in the Financial Management Committee of Parliament.

The position was advertised at R2.6 million. An independent panel later recommended R4.4 million during a benchmarking exercise. Current financial statements show the salary is just under R5 million.

EFF MP Omphile Moatwe said a forensic investigation is urgent. He noted that the audited statements list a basic salary with no gratuity and highlighted incentives from George's prior role at Salga, including a long-term incentive of R2.5 million and a short-term incentive of R757 000. The EFF has also lodged a complaint with the Public Protector.
