Ex-lawmaker Lo Wai-kwok announces engagement to actress 42 years his junior

Lo Wai-kwok, 73, chairman of Hong Kong’s Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong, has announced his engagement to 31-year-old Cantonese opera actress Yemina Yu Chung-yan.

The former lawmaker appeared with his fiancée at the party headquarters on Friday to share the news. The couple, who share a passion for Cantonese opera, performed a short piece for reporters and held hands during the event.

Lo’s engagement comes five years after the death of his wife Adelina Wong Siu-chun. The pair first met decades ago when Yu, then a primary school student, won a Cantonese opera competition and was introduced to Lo by his late wife.

Their wedding is scheduled for October. The announcement adds to a rise in remarriages in Hong Kong, which increased 32 per cent from 15,832 in 2019 to 20,971 in 2024.
