An explosion rocked eastern Cali around 7:30 p.m. on December 26, 2025, during the Cali Fair, lightly injuring two civilians as a police patrol passed through the area.
The incident took place near transversal 103 and diagonal 26P, amid the Cali Fair, held from December 25 to 30, which draws thousands of locals and visitors. Preliminary information from authorities indicates an explosive device was detonated as a National Police patrol passed by, alarming residents in the area.
Units from the Cali Metropolitan Police and Sijín arrived at the scene, launching a lockdown plan to apprehend those responsible. Cali's Security Secretariat confirmed no fatalities, but two civilians suffered light injuries: a taxi driver and a man walking nearby at the time.
Santiago de Cali's ombudsman, Gerardo Mendoza Castrillón, categorically condemned the attack on law enforcement. In a statement, he said: “As the District Ombudsman of Santiago de Cali, I categorically reject the attack that occurred just minutes ago in the eastern part of the city, where a National Police patrol traveling on 103rd Street with 27th Avenue was targeted. According to preliminary information, subjects threw an explosive device, resulting in several people injured with minor wounds”.
The Ombudsman’s office expressed solidarity with those affected and urged authorities to clarify the facts and ensure public safety. This event unfolds during a week of high crowds due to the Fair, underscoring concerns about violence in festive settings.
