Fans harass Rockstar developers amid GTA VI anticipation

Reports indicate that some Grand Theft Auto VI fans have resorted to extreme measures, including forging IDs and using drones, to glimpse development footage. These incidents follow a history of privacy breaches since the game's 2022 announcement. Rockstar Games faces ongoing challenges from overzealous supporters as the title's November 2026 release approaches.

Grand Theft Auto VI, announced by Rockstar Games in February 2022, has been plagued by security issues from eager fans. In September 2022, a hacker leaked 90 videos of early development footage to GTAForums, totaling over 50 minutes of work-in-progress material.

Incidents escalated in October 2024, when individuals camped outside Rockstar offices and photographed through windows. Content creators have also approached developers directly, pressing for details on release dates and potential delays.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced of fans forging fake IDs to enter Rockstar buildings and flying drones to capture images or video through windows. The Polish site PPE and GTA insider KiwiTalkz highlighted the severity, stating, “Unfortunately, there are a number of crazy Rockstar fans that would 100% break into retail stores and manufacturing facilities to steal discs, and people on the inside would leak it as well.” KiwiTalkz added, “I have heard stories from Rockstar devs over the years of nutty fans trying to get into their buildings to get any info they can from faking IDs to flying drones above windows to try to get images/video.”

Legal actions have been taken in some cases, with arrests possible for those involved, potentially prolonging their wait for the game. Despite frustrations from the decade-long gap since the previous entry, such behavior undermines developer privacy. Grand Theft Auto VI remains scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
