The accident took place on the A5 highway near Achern in the Ortenaukreis district. According to police, the 49-year-old had previously rear-ended a truck with his car and parked on the shoulder. For unclear reasons, he then entered the roadway and was struck by an oncoming car.
Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the man on site but could only confirm his death. The driver of the car that hit the 49-year-old suffered shock. The A5 in the northward direction was completely closed for accident investigation and clearance operations.
