FDMTL partners with Vans on Tabi Authentic sneakers

Japanese denim brand FDMTL has collaborated with Vans on a new version of the Authentic sneaker featuring a split-toe Tabi design. The shoes, previewed during FDMTL's Fall/Winter 2026 runway show, incorporate signature indigo denim with boro patchwork and sashiko-style stitching. Multiple colorways highlight the brand's artisanal approach to denim.

FDMTL, known for its high-grade Japanese denim, teamed up with Vans to reinterpret the classic Authentic silhouette. The collaboration introduces a Tabi split-toe construction, blending traditional Japanese footwear elements with Vans' skate heritage. The upper uses FDMTL's indigo denim in a boro patchwork style, enhanced by contrast sashiko stitching on the quarters and toe box for a handcrafted look. Branding remains subtle, with Vans' tab and midsole integrated into the design, while the vulcanized rubber sole maintains the skate shoe's familiar form. Tongue and laces are kept simple to emphasize the textured upper. Several variants were shown on the runway. One features layered indigo patchwork with visible stitching, another explores deep and light indigo dyes, and a third offers a white upper paired with a blue midsole for everyday wear. These executions reflect FDMTL's philosophy of “old cloth reborn,” layering shades and textures to evoke Japanese denim traditions. The sneakers carry a TBC SKU, with a release planned for 2026.
