Ferry operations on Göta Älv in Göteborg have been halted after crew members were targeted with green lasers from the Karlatornet skyscraper. No injuries were reported, but safety protocols prompted the suspension until Sunday morning. Police are investigating multiple similar reports from Saturday.
On Saturday, November 8, 2025, around 5 p.m., ferry crew on Västtrafik's routes on Göta Älv in Göteborg were exposed to green lasers from Karlatornet, the city's tallest building. Styrsöbolaget, operating the ferries for Västtrafik and owned by Transdev, decided to suspend service between Lilla Bommen and Klippan until Sunday morning for safety reasons.
"No one has been injured, but we have followed our safety policy and suspended the traffic for safety reasons. And reported the incident to the police," says Rose Saremi, press officer at Transdev, to Göteborgs-Posten.
Police confirm the laser originated from a southwesterly direction toward Karlatornet. Later that evening, additional calls reported green lasers from the building targeting both drivers and pedestrians.
"Now they are shooting at both drivers and passersby on foot," says Jennifer Last, police spokesperson for the Västra Götaland region, to TV4 Nyheterna.
Police dispatched a patrol to Karlatornet to investigate but initially found no suspect. Earlier in the day, bus drivers in Angered, northeastern Göteborg, reported similar laser incidents, though police are unsure of any connection.
"We don't know if there is any connection. It might just be a coincidence," Last tells TV4.
The incident has been reported to police, and the investigation continues to identify the perpetrator.
