Filming locations for Young Sherlock TV series revealed

Guy Ritchie's upcoming series Young Sherlock, focusing on the detective's teenage years, was filmed across the UK and Spain in 2024. The production transforms historic sites into period settings for Sherlock's first major case at Oxford University. Set for release on Prime Video in March 2026, the show adapts Andy Lane's book series.

Young Sherlock explores the origins of the iconic detective as a 19-year-old amateur investigator at Oxford University. The plot centers on a murder that escalates into a global conspiracy, testing Holmes's emerging skills. Based on Andy Lane's book series, the adaptation marks director Guy Ritchie's return to the Sherlock Holmes universe, following his earlier films.

The cast features Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the lead role as Sherlock Holmes, alongside Dónal Finn as his rival James Moriarty. Max Irons portrays older brother Mycroft Holmes, while Natascha McElhone and Joseph Fiennes play parents Cordelia and Silas Holmes. Additional roles include Zine Tseng as the multifaceted Gulun Shou’an and Colin Firth as Bucephalus Hodge.

Production took place primarily in Bristol and South Wales during 2024, with supplementary filming in Spain. In Bristol, crews captured scenes on Broad Street, Small Street, Underfall Yard, and Queen Square, outfitting the areas with market stalls and carts to evoke a historical atmosphere. South Wales served as a key hub, with sets constructed at Cardiff’s Great Point Studios. Filming extended to Monmouth town centre and Cardiff's Civic Centre.

For international elements, the team shot in the Spanish cities of Jerez, Cádiz, and Seville. In Cádiz, locations such as Plaza de Argüelles, Plaza de Candelaria, and Plaza de Mina were dressed with vintage signs and period details to suit the story's timeline.

This multi-location approach underscores the series' blend of academic intrigue and worldwide adventure, building anticipation for its Prime Video debut on March 4, 2026.
