Fire breaks out at beer depot in Uthiru estate

A fire broke out at a beer depot in Uthiru Cooperation estate early Sunday morning, destroying property of unknown value. Residents struggled to contain the blaze threatening nearby buildings until firefighters arrived. No casualties were reported, and the cause remains unclear.

The fire erupted around 5am as the area transitioned from night to morning, catching late-night revellers and early risers off guard, witnesses said. It ignited in a section storing spirits, which fueled its rapid spread due to their high flammability.

Local residents used water to fight the blaze amid thick smoke clouds visible from the depot, which threatened neighbouring structures. Firefighters arrived on scene with their truck to contain it.

This incident adds to a pattern of fires in Nairobi estates, often at dawn or evenings, including Mlango Kubwa in December 2025 and Mukuru Fuata Nyayo Village in November. Residents frequently cite delayed emergency responses as a factor in the damage.
