A major fire struck Kampung Adat Kasepuhan Ciptamulya in Sukabumi Regency on Saturday 25 July 2026 around 13.00 WIB. The blaze, caused by an electrical short circuit, destroyed 51 houses and 49 leuit. No fatalities were reported.
The fire started from an electrical short circuit in a bathroom and quickly spread to nearby homes including the Imah Gede traditional house. Firefighters struggled to reach the remote location due to the long distance and difficult terrain so the flames could not be contained.
Ketua Adat Kasepuhan Ciptamulya Abah E. Suhendri Wijaya also known as Abah Hendrik confirmed the extent of the damage. He noted that some family homes were spared. Affected residents are now staying with relatives or in emergency tents.
Member of Commission VIII DPR RI Atalia Praratya expressed condolences via Instagram. She recalled the 2024 landslide that hit the area and said Ciptamulya was familiar to her after helping rebuild homes with Jabar Bergerak.
