Flamengo clinched the 2025 Brasileirão title with a 1-0 win over Ceará at the Maracanã, securing their ninth league star. Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar started and played the full match, adding his seventh trophy with the club. The achievement comes just four days after winning the Copa Libertadores.
In the penultimate round of Brazil's Serie A, Flamengo beat Ceará 1-0 on Wednesday at the Maracanã, with Samuel Lino scoring in the 37th minute. This gave coach Filipe Luís's team 78 points after 37 matches: 23 wins, nine draws, and five losses, with 75 goals for and 24 against. They lead Palmeiras by five points, after the latter's 3-0 win over Atlético Mineiro, with one round left.
It is Flamengo's ninth Brasileirão title, following wins in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1992, 2009, 2019, and 2020. They surpass Santos's eight and trail only Palmeiras with 12. For Antofagasta native Pulgar, formerly of Bologna and Fiorentina, it is his first Brasileirão and seventh trophy with the Rubro-Negro: two Carioca (2024 and 2025), one Copa do Brasil (2024), one Supercopa (2025), two Libertadores (2022 and 2025).
Just days earlier, on Saturday, Flamengo secured their fourth Copa Libertadores with a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras in Lima. Pulgar, who partnered with Jorginho in midfield, earned Conmebol recognition by being named to the tournament's ideal team. The lineup features seven Flamengo players, two from Palmeiras, and two from Racing: Agustín Rossi; Leo Pereira, Danilo, Gustavo Gómez; Jorge Carrascal, Santiago Sosa, Erick Pulgar, Giorgian de Arrascaeta; Pedro, Adrián Martínez, Juan Manuel López.
Pulgar reflected on a controversial play in the final: “When I saw the mark on Bruno Fuchs's shin, good thing I was wearing thermal shorts, because I almost shit myself (laughs). But it was a final. If you play at 100%, you win. If you only play at 10% (you lose)... So I think I played at 100%, at the limit, the limit required in a final”.
