Florida man charged after assaulting wedding officiant over cost

A 35-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking a 69-year-old wedding officiant during a dispute over the price of a beachside ceremony in Florida. Authorities said the incident occurred Sunday afternoon at a park in Port Orange.

William Wells approached the officiant and an employee as they packed up after the ceremony at Toronita Park around 2:30 p.m. He expressed anger over the cost, saying the wedding should have been $500, and began calling the victim names. When the officiant started calling 911, Wells swatted at him, striking him in the stomach and knocking the wind out of him. He also threatened to summon others before police arrived.
