Former Raymond Group chairman Vijaypat Singhania passed away in Mumbai on Saturday evening at the age of 87. His son Gautam Singhania confirmed the news on social media platform X. The funeral is scheduled for 3 pm today at Chandanwadi crematorium.

Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania, former chairman of the Raymond Group and Padma Bhushan awardee, passed away in Mumbai on March 28, 2026. He was 87. His son Gautam Singhania, the current chairman and managing director, confirmed the news in a post on X, stating, “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform the passing of Padma Bhushan Dr. Vijaypat Kailashpat Singhania.” He described him as “a visionary leader, philanthropist, and an inspiring personality, whose legacy will continue to guide and inspire generations.”

A Raymond Group spokesperson said, “Padma Bhushan awardee, former chairman of Raymond Group and former Sheriff of Bombay, Air Commodore Vijaypat Singhania passed away this evening in Mumbai. We are all in deep sorrow and praying for his soul's peace.”

Born in 1938, Singhania transformed Raymond into a global textile brand. Under his leadership, the company expanded internationally. He served as former Sheriff of Bombay. A trained pilot, he set records in hot air ballooning, including a 2005 world record as the oldest person to fly over 69,000 feet.

According to the family, a tribute gathering will be held at 1:30 pm today at Haveli, LD Ruparel Marg in Mumbai, followed by cremation at 3 pm at Chandanwadi crematorium. The Singhania family quoted a verse from the Bhagavad Gita and prayed for his soul's peace. In later years, a public family dispute with his son Gautam drew attention, with Vijaypat accusing him of forcing him out of the company and home.
