Four-year-old boy rescued from borewell in Hoshiarpur after nine-hour operation

A four-year-old boy named Gurkaran Singh was rescued from a borewell in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district after a nine-hour operation involving multiple agencies. The child fell into the newly dug borewell on Friday night at Chak Samana village and was pulled out safely around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday night at Chak Samana village near Bhikhowal along the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road. Gurkaran Singh was trapped at a depth of 20 to 30 feet in an open borewell adjoining his family's house. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Punjab Police, fire brigade and local volunteers collaborated on the effort.

Teams dug a parallel pit to about 25 to 30 feet and created a narrow tunnel to reach the boy. They supplied oxygen through a pipe and initially used a camera to monitor his condition before loose soil collapsed inside the borewell. More than 40 NDRF personnel took part in the operation, which was complicated by the sandy soil that repeatedly collapsed.

Deputy Commandant Pankaj Sharma said the child's condition was stable after rescue. Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain noted that the boy's mother was called to speak to him during the operation to keep him calm. Punjab Minister Ravjot Singh and AAP MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal monitored the efforts at the site. The child was shifted to a hospital for medical examination.
