Ghost of Yotei Legends launches free online mode on March 10

Sucker Punch is adding a free multiplayer mode called Ghost of Yotei Legends to its PS5 exclusive Ghost of Yotei, set to launch on March 10. The update includes the popular Zeni Hajiki coin-flicking mini-game for play with friends in a new lobby area. It also features returning elements like bamboo strikes with leaderboards.

Ghost of Yotei, Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai RPG released last year as a PS5 exclusive, is receiving a free update in the form of Ghost of Yotei Legends. This multiplayer mode, launching on March 10, draws inspiration from Ghost of Tsushima Legends and includes big fights, raids, and character classes typical of online action RPGs.

A highlight is the inclusion of Zeni Hajiki, the coin-flicking table game from the single-player campaign, now playable against friends in the mode’s mini-open-world lobby. Zeni Hajiki involves players flicking coins off a table using other coins to do so quickly and efficiently. Legends lead designer Darren Bridges explained in an interview with the Official PlayStation Blog: “Our goal in designing [this mode’s] lobby was to give you something you can do while you wait for friends to join. You can go look at the feats you’ve completed and unlock cosmetics. You can tweak your build, adjust your tech tree. But the lobby also has some light PvP elements, such as Zeni Hajiki, the coin-flicking game that was in the single-player campaign. We heard players wishing they could play that against friends (so did our QA team), so we did!”

The lobby serves as a space for activities between matches, including a training area for perfect parries and build testing. Another returning feature is the bamboo strike minigame, now with a mini leaderboard for competing with friends. Bridges added: “There’s a training area if you want to get good at perfect parries in a low-pressure environment, or to just test your build. So it’s just meant to be a place that, while you’re waiting or you’re in between rounds, we give you interesting things to do.”

Unlike the flat 2D menu in Ghost of Tsushima Legends, this lobby offers more interactive elements. The update is free for all owners of Ghost of Yotei.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has abandoned plans to release current and future first-party single-player PlayStation games on PC, according to a Bloomberg report. Titles including last year's Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming Saros—a Returnal successor set for April 30—will stay exclusive to PS5, while multiplayer games like Marathon (launching tomorrow on PS5 and PC) and Marvel Tokon continue multi-platform. This reverses six years of ports since Horizon Zero Dawn.
