Glen Hansard funeral details announced by family

The family of Glen Hansard has released details for his public wake and funeral service after the singer-songwriter died in a motorcycle crash. The events are scheduled in Dublin later this week.

A public wake for Hansard is set for Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Baroque Chapel at IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin. The family stated that Hansard will lie in repose for those wishing to pay their respects.

The funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. Access inside the cathedral will be extremely limited due to expected crowds, and the service will be broadcast live on RTE News and RIP.ie.

Music at the funeral will be provided by Hansard’s friends and family. The family has asked for donations to Dublin’s Simon Community or Ukrainian Action in place of flowers and has requested privacy for mourners.

Hansard, who was 56, died on July 29 following the crash near his home in Dublin. He was known for his Oscar-winning work in Once and for fronting The Frames and The Swell Season.
