Gunmen have abducted five residents from Magogo village in Kogi State, heightening tension in the community. The victims were returning from a wedding in Jos when their vehicle was intercepted. Local leaders are urging authorities to secure their release.

Tension grips Magogo village in Ogori/Magongo Local Council of Kogi State after gunmen kidnapped five community members. The incident occurred on Monday night as the victims returned from a wedding ceremony in Jos, Plateau State.

Jordan Akpata, National President of the Magongo Development Association, confirmed the abduction in a phone interview. He explained that the group had traveled to Jos on Friday for the event. Around 8:30 pm on their way back, their vehicle was stopped just a few kilometers from Magogo. The gunmen forced the occupants out at gunpoint and marched them into the bush.

Akpata described the close proximity to safety: “The victims were just a few kilometres away from their destination in Magongo when the gunmen intercepted them. They were forcefully disembarked from their vehicle and ordered into the bush at gunpoint.”

He called on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to act swiftly for the victims' rescue. Efforts to reach DSP Williams Aya, spokesperson for the Kogi Police Command, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

This abduction underscores ongoing security challenges in the region, though no further details on the perpetrators or ransom demands emerged from available information.
