Gustavianum wins Uppsala Municipality architecture prize

Gustavianum has been named the winner of Uppsala Municipality's architecture prize for 2026. The award was presented on June 4.

Gustavianum at Akademigatan 3 received the prize among five finalists. The jury described the renovation as architectural surgery of the highest class. The project was completed in 2024 by Hidemark & Stintzing on behalf of Statens fastighetsverk. It covers the university's oldest preserved building from the 1620s and includes a new main entrance from the university park. The jury praised the renovated exhibition halls with custom elm wood furniture and lighting by Note Design Studio. The prize has been awarded annually since 2020 to encourage high architectural quality.
