President Gustavo Petro began a trip yesterday to Barcelona, Spain, to attend the Cumbre por Defensa de la Democracia, scheduled for April 17 and 18. He is expected to return on April 21. This adds to the previous 64, reaching a total of 65 international trips during his presidency.
Julio César Triana, a representative to the Chamber for the Cambio Radical party, released the data. The trips account for 276 days abroad at a cost over $9.000 million (US$2.5 million). The first was to Lima, Peru, on August 29, 2022, meeting then-President Pedro Castillo.
The yearly breakdown: five trips in 2022, 25 in 2023, 13 in 2024, and 16 in 2025, totaling 59 up to that year. In 2026, there are already six, including yesterday's.
This year's destinations include Panama on January 27 for the CAF Economic Forum; the United States to resume bilateral dialogue with the Donald Trump government, including a White House meeting, and another to Chicago; Chile on February 6; and Austria on March 8.
The United States is the most visited with nine trips, followed by Brazil and Venezuela with five each.
