Haryana increases water supply to Delhi to ease shortage

Haryana has assured Delhi of 1,000 cusecs of raw water through the Munak Canal to address ongoing shortages. The step follows talks between the chief ministers of the two states. Production at Delhi's treatment plants remains below target levels.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said she spoke with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who agreed to maintain the higher flow. Officials noted that Delhi normally receives 924 cusecs but had been getting 950 cusecs for the past week before the latest increase.

Delhi requires about 1,250 million gallons per day of water. Treatment plants produced 880 million gallons on Friday against a summer target of 1,000 million gallons. Low levels in the Yamuna at Wazirabad, now at 668 feet instead of the normal 674.5 feet, have reduced raw water availability.

The Delhi Jal Board continues to supply around 900 million gallons daily and has deployed more than 980 tankers making 6,000 trips each day. Over the past week the board received 11,055 complaints and resolved more than 8,500 of them. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said teams are working round the clock to manage the network.
