Avalanche risk escalates to level 4 in key Swedish mountain areas

A week after previous level 3 warnings across multiple regions, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency reports very high avalanche danger (level 4/5) in western Vindelfjällen and southern Lapplandsfjällen, strongly advising against all visits to avalanche terrain.

Avalanche forecasts from Naturvårdsverket indicate very dangerous conditions in western Vindelfjällen and southern Lapplandsfjällen, with risk rated four on the five-point scale—meaning significant likelihood of avalanche release. The agency warns: “Very dangerous conditions. We strongly advise against all visits to avalanche terrain, both in steep slopes and areas below them,” with special emphasis on western Vindelfjällen.

Other assessed mountain areas remain at level 3 (considerable risk). This forecast is valid until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 3, 2026. Updates are available on the Lavinprognoser website, based on weather, snowpack, and terrain analysis to help prevent accidents.

This escalation follows earlier reports of level 3 risks in these and nearby areas, underscoring ongoing winter hazards for skiers and outdoor enthusiasts.
