The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training has commended the University of Venda for its R1 billion infrastructure overhaul. Committee chairperson Tebego Letsie expressed satisfaction during a recent campus inspection. Members viewed completed projects that were previously stalled.

The University of Venda (Univen) in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, has received praise from the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training for its extensive infrastructure improvements. On a recent visit, committee members, led by chairperson Tebego Letsie, inspected several key developments funded by an investment of R1 billion.

Among the facilities examined were new streets, student residences, and the newly constructed Science and Health buildings. Letsie highlighted the progress, noting a significant turnaround from previous years. "We are impressed with the resuscitation of infrastructure projects that have been abandoned before," he stated during the tour. He recalled a 2023 visit when multiple projects remained incomplete, adding, "I was indicating to the Vice Chancellor that I was here in 2023 where we had a number of projects that were on going. All of them are done now. I think you saw the health science building, state of the art."

The committee expressed overall happiness with the campus conditions, signaling a positive step for higher education in the region. This development aligns with broader efforts to enhance university facilities in South Africa, as evidenced by related announcements from Univen leadership, including Prof Bernard Nthambeleni.
