Japanese midfielder Hina Sugita has agreed to a three-year contract extension with Angel City FC, securing her place with the team through the 2029 season. The deal follows her recent acquisition from the Portland Thorns.
Angel City FC midfielder Hina Sugita agreed to a three-year contract extension on Tuesday, spanning through the 2029 season. Financial terms were not disclosed for the 28-year-old, who was acquired from the Portland Thorns on Sept. 30 in exchange for defender M.A. Vignola and $600,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
"Hina is a world-class talent and exactly the caliber of player and person we want at our club," said Mark Parsons, Angel City's sporting director. "She has fit in immediately from the moment she arrived and we know that she will continue to contribute to our goals of competing for trophies."
Sugita had been with the Thorns since 2022, accumulating 13 goals and 14 assists in 82 league appearances (71 starts). She recorded three assists for Portland this season before appearing in four matches with Angel City.
"I've always tried to give my very best to soccer, and I'm so happy to have found a team that gives me the feeling that there is so much more to come," Sugita said. "I am so grateful to all my teammates at Angel City who bring so much joy and excitement to every match. I will keep working hard every day to give back to my fans and supporters, and help Angel City to reach new heights."
Internationally, she has earned 51 caps with the Japanese Women's National Team and appeared in one Olympics (2020) and two Women's World Cups (2019, 2023) for Japan.
