Hubble images reveal young stars in LH 95 nursery

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has released a new view of LH 95, a star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud filled with thousands of developing stars.

The image shows brilliant blue and white stars against crimson hydrogen gas clouds. LH 95 contains roughly 2,500 pre-main-sequence stars still gathering material from surrounding disks.

Massive stars in the region, some exceeding three solar masses, emit ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds that heat and shape the nebula. One standout star near the top left holds 60 to 70 times the Sun's mass and appears about one million years younger than its four-million-year-old neighbors.

Observations indicate that star accretion can continue for several million years, longer than earlier models suggested. Multiple generations of stars coexist in the area, providing data on extended formation processes.

LH 95 lies relatively nearby and suffers less dust obscuration than Milky Way regions, aiding detailed study. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope remains scheduled to launch in late summer to support further cosmic exploration.
