IKEA to open first Dundee Plan and Order Point next month

IKEA has announced plans to open its first Plan and Order Point in Dundee on March 19, marking the company's initial presence in the city. The new store at Kingsway West Retail Park will offer bespoke planning services for kitchens and storage, along with a selection of accessories for immediate purchase. Local leaders have welcomed the investment as a boost to the economy and community.

IKEA's new Plan and Order Point in Dundee’s Kingsway West Retail Park is set to open on March 19. This smaller-format store will provide customers with specialized services for planning and ordering kitchens, bedroom storage, and living room solutions. Design specialists from an eight-member team will assist visitors, who can drop in or book appointments online. Once planned, products from the full IKEA range can be ordered for home delivery or collection at the store.

The location will also serve as a collection point for online orders and accept returns of IKEA purchases. Customers can browse and buy from 250 home furnishing accessories, including home decor, kitchen items, and storage solutions, available for immediate takeaway. This setup aims to bring IKEA's offerings closer to where people live, work, and socialize.

Kevin Coventry, market manager at IKEA, stated: “We are so proud to bring IKEA to Dundee with the opening of our first-ever Plan and Order Point in the city. Our retail park location was carefully selected to ensure customers can conveniently drop into IKEA for bespoke support with their home-planning needs while out and about. We cannot wait to open our doors and help the Dundee community design a better life at home.”

Local officials expressed support for the development. Joe FitzPatrick, MSP for Dundee City West, said: “I am delighted to welcome IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point to Dundee. IKEA's investment highlights the growing confidence in Dundee and our city's future. It is fantastic to see a global brand like IKEA strengthening its presence in Scotland in a way that benefits our local economy and community, creates jobs, and offers something new for Dundonians.”

Councillor Mark Flynn, leader of Dundee City Council, added: “I’m delighted to see IKEA choosing to invest in Dundee with the opening of this new Plan and Order Point. It’s a welcome addition that reflects Dundee’s continued success in attracting investment and supports the work we’re doing to build a thriving, inclusive city.”

This opening enhances IKEA's footprint in Scotland, where it already operates stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with another Plan and Order Point planned for Aberdeen.
